First Week At School

Katylin sat at her desk, looking at her feet, trying to blend in with her surroundings. Ever since she switched from private school to public school, she had been unsure and trying to blend in with everything. Her whole world had been turned upside down in less than a week.
This first week of school had shaken her world. Everything she knew was being challenged, and being brought up in a Christian school and home, her first thought and question was, Where is God in all this? Where did He go? He had always been in her perfect life, right? So why did He decide to forsake her now?Her mom and dad were still there to support her. Even though her mom decided to take a part time job, making it difficult for her to be home all the time… they were there for her when she had no friends. Well, maybe that was an overstatement, but all of her friends got split up in the big “transition” from private to public, and they now seemed so far away between the homework and new school and all.
The bell rang, shaking her from her thoughts. She gathered her stuff and shuffled out the door. People poured out of the classrooms from all over the hall. She looked down at her feet again and in that split second she felt someone run into her. At that moment they both collided and books and papers went everywhere. Katylin felt her face turn red and she quickly bent down to pick up her things. As she did, the other girl did to, and they ended up bumping heads, colliding for the second time. She quickly collected all her stuff, murmured an apology and practically ran down the hall. “That was so embarrassing, I am such a klutz,” she thought over and over again until she reached the bus. There she got on and slid down in her seat, sliding from reality as well, and as she did often, got lost in her thoughts.
“If I had done that in my old school, it wouldn’t have mattered,” she thought. “It wouldn’t be embarrassing, but funny, and my friends and I would laugh over it later.” She sighed as she remembered all the times her and her friends got into trouble or acted like a klutz, but it was a good thing, they had good times and tons of funny stories over those elementary and middle school years. She used to be popular, not in a bad way, but she had lots of friends and her life was perfect. She was constantly calling, emailing, and going out, having a good time. Her friends were always telling her she had an outgoing personality and was really fun and bouncy to be around. She wondered where that was now, and how come she couldn’t seem to make friends. “Why did all that have to change,” she thought for the millionth time. “Why couldn’t I just have stayed there with everyone?” “Why did we all have to grow up and not be together?”
She felt abandoned, like everyone, her parents, friends and even God had just given up on her.
